How to Circuit Train With a Log

Select five cardiovascular and five strength training exercises. These exercises should be familiar to you and at your fitness level. Write the names of the selected exercises in your exercise log starting with a cardiovascular exercise and follow with a strength exercise. Alternating between a cardiovascular and a strength training exercise will keep your heart rate elevated throughout the circuit. - 2). Plan the intensity of your workout; one easy way to do this is to set a time goal for each station. For example, each station could be 45 seconds with a 15 second rest period between exercises. This would simplify your log, as you would only be recording the exercises performed and the duration of time spent at each station.
- 3). Set up each exercise station with the appropriate exercise equipment. You want to minimize interruptions during your workout since they will reduce your heart rate and the intensity of the workout.
- 4). Review how to perform each exercise properly. If you are familiar with each exercise, then you will not need to carry your workout log with you to each station. Knowing your entire workout before you begin will minimize potential breaks during your workout.
If you are a beginner and need your notes to remember each exercise, then attach your list of exercises to a clipboard and bring it with you to each station. Another option would be to write the name of each exercise on flash cards and place them by their corresponding station. - 5). Record and make notes in your exercise log after your workout. You should record sets, repetitions, rest periods and the duration of the entire session. It may also be beneficial to write down how you felt, what needs improvement, what needs to be changed, or what you could do to increase the intensity.
