How to Word Invitations to Bring a Plate

1). Label the event a potluck, which alerts attendees that they need to bring a plate.
2). Add the statement "Please bring a plate to share" to the bottom of the invitation.That statement is casual, but events at which attendees are expected to bring plates are similarly casual.
3). Add "contact X to coordinate food and beverages," where X is the name of the person organizing the event. This has the additional benefit of ensuring there is a wide variety of food.
4). Request a family dish by stating "Please bring a family favorite to share." The Knot suggests this for potluck receptions. It gives the event an intimate feeling.
