Technological advancements in HVAC systems: Is it the time to replace your OLD Heating System?

Here are 6 Signs that it's Time for a Switch

1.   Your HVAC system is old

If your system is more than 15 years old, you'll receive various benefits for updating your old system with a new one. More modern and cost effective systems save a ton on fuel- sometimes as much as 20% of a lower cost on your bills when you buy an ENERGY STAR model.

  1. 2.   Your electric bills keep getting higher and higher

Electricity is expensive, and the last thing you want to do is to have to pay high bills. A new model is, on average, 50 to 60 percent more efficient than a model from a decade ago. Typically you're better off buying a whole new unit, and the lower bills are kind of a return on an expensive investment.

 3.   Repairs within a few years of each other

If you've had your system repaired a couple of times within 24 months or less, your aging system needs to be changed out with a new system that will likely provide you 10 years on warranty, parts and labor so you won't have to call the heating repair services in your town for another decade.

 4.   Weird noises

If you're hearing strange noises from your system, have it inspected. If a blower fan is malfunctioning, or any other part for that matter, it makes very characteristic, quirky noises- so pay attention.

 5.   Bad air quality

When your allergies are driving you nuts because of dirt and dust all around your house, you might not have the rightamount of air exchange occurring, or it could be that the system is too old to function.

 6.   Pockets of hot or cold air in your home

Is your home comfortable? If you're uncomfortable and your HVAC System simply can't make the temperature change to your liking, or there's mold or dust – it's time to upgrade.

When you actually decide to make the switch it's important to verify that the product is energy efficient, as characterized by a "Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio"being in the mid-teens. Any good carrier factory is going to have a wide variety of models that go up as far as the mid-20 range. If you're really interested in saving the most, tell your carrier factor dealer that you want the best possible Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio.

What are some of the advancements in the HVAC industry on the market today? The latest technologies in the HVAC industry include the ductless split air conditioning/heating systems that allow you to control each room temperature individually, further cutting down costs in the long run. Also it is likely that you have an analog thermostat of old in your system, so getting an electronic thermostat, or better yet, a programmable one, will improve efficiency and ease of use.
