How to Cut a Steel L-Bar
- 1). Use a permanent marker to lay out lines on both faces of the angle where you want to cut. Secure the angle iron in a bench vise.
- 2). Start the cut slowly and carefully with a hacksaw, applying only slight pressure. The objective at first is to score the lines so the grooves maintain the blade in position. Score both faces of the angle iron in this manner.
- 3). Cut the scored lines with long strokes and a little more pressure. Start at the vertex of the angle and work your way through, cutting both sides of the angle at the same time. In that way, the edges of the cut help to maintain the blade in line and square with the scored lines.
