Quick Overview of 2 Types of Anxiety Medications
In the 1980's a company now owned by Pfizer decided to market different medications for anxiety based on formulas created int he 1960's for depression.
These different drugs are not widely used for anxiety and panic attacks.
Alprazolam Known more wide spread as Xanax, this is a drug used to increase the potency of a neurotransmitter with a long name shortened to GABA.
This chemical is produced int he brain and blocks many different receptors from firing signals in the brain.
By doing this your body feels more relaxed, your muscles loosen, your mind calms, and you feel more calm in general.
GABA is responsible for blocking exciting messages in the brain, thus causing a tranquilizing effect when it is enhanced, There are many side effects for this drug because GABA blocks many different receptors that effect a whole host of feelings and actions.
Depending on what you use Alprazolam for, the side effects will be everything that it was not prescribed for.
There are also some negative effects on the body not related to the brain altering effects.
Duloxetine Known more wide spread as Cymbalta, this drug is used to block the neurotransmitters Serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain form being reabsorbed.
By keeping more of these chemicals in the brain, scientists have concluded that you become happier.
The reason for this is that these chemicals effect mood and relaxation and they do so only when they are present in the brain.
Once they are reabsorbed their effect is discontinued.
By keeping in the brain longer, the drug effectively improves mood and relaxes the person.
