  Richardson, Texas--historically home to the Comanche and Caddo Native Americans--is now a Dallas suburb that was settled in the 1840s. These days, visitors can go camping in the area and experience the historical, cultural and natural attractions that Richardson has to offer. Some attractions include the historical Owens Spring Farm and Museum, Galatyn Woodland Preserve, the biannual Cottonwood Art Festival (May and October) and plenty of shopping.
  
  

Hickory Creek Park

• Hickory Creek Park is a campground located 10 miles northwest of Richardson in Lewisville, Texas. This park, run by the Texas Corp of Engineers, lies on the northern shores of Lewisville Lake, where visitors can go swimming, fishing and boating. This campground has primitive and full-service sites with 30- and 50-amp power for RVs and tents. Campground amenities include a dump station, a playground, showers, bathrooms, a supply store, a boat ramp, a laundromat, a propane supply and grills.

Lavonia Park

• Lavonia Park is a Texas State Park that features a campground about 12 miles northeast of Richardson. This park is situated on the south shores of freshwater Lavon Lake and has 106 RV sites and tent camping with water and electrical hookups. Amenities include showers, bathrooms, a boat ramp, a public phone and direct access to water recreation on Lake Lavon. Activities include fishing, cycling, hiking and boating.

Sandy Lake RV Resort

• Sandy Lake RV Resort is located approximately 12 miles from Richardson in Carrollton, Texas directly across the street from Sandy Lake Amusement Park. This park has just over 200 RV and tent trailer sites spread over 200 acres of grassy land. The sites have electrical, water, sewer and propane hookups, along with 30- and 50-amp power.
