    • 1). Click "File" and click "Open" to select the photo you want to edit in PSP. Click the "Freehand Selection" tool. Click the drop-down arrow and confirm that "Selection type" is set to "Point to Point."

    • 2). Click and hold the mouse button down while you drag the mouse around the outline of the hair you want to change. Note, the outline doesn't have to be perfect, as long as you select all of the hair that you want to change.

    • 3). Click "Selections." Highlight "Modify" and click "Feather." Set the "number of pixels" to either five or six. Five or six pixels represents a standard resolution per inch that should be used to soften the edges of your selection area.

    • 4). Right-click the "Background layer" in the "Layers" palette. Click "Promote Selection to Layer." Press "Ctrl + D" to deselect the selection.

    • 5). Click "Brightness & Contrast" and click "Curves." Adjust the "RGB channel" on the "Curves histogram" using the drop-down menu. Left-click in the middle of the curve. To change the hair color to a lighter tone, drag the curve toward the top left. To darken the hair color, drag the curve to the bottom right. Click "OK."

    • 6). Click the "Eraser" tool in the tool bar. A number of options will pop up next to the eraser tool box. Use the following settings for the eraser tool: Shape set to circle, Size set to 150, Hardness set to 25, Step set to 10, Density set to 75, Thickness set to 100, Rotation set to 0 and Opacity set to 2. Use the eraser tool to go over the edges and ends of the hair to create a more natural look. Stroke the eraser tool lightly over the ends of the hair in the areas you want to touch up.
