How Do I Install a Drive Belt on a 2002 Crown Victoria?
- 1). Open the hood of the 2002 Crown Victoria and inspect the top of the cooling fan shroud for the serpentine belt routing diagram. This diagram has the routing instructions that will be needed to install the new belt.
- 2). Locate the spring-loaded belt tensioner device on the front of the engine. The tensioner device has a roller pulley on one end and a spring-loaded arm on the other end. The spring-loaded arm has a square hole at the top of the arm that is the same size as the end of a 3/8-inch drive breaker bar. Use the breaker bar to turn the whole tensioner device from the square hole.
- 3). Insert the end of the 3/8-inch drive breaker bar into the square hole of the tensioner arm, then turn the tensioner device counterclockwise with the breaker bar. When the tension is relieved from the belt, slide it out from under the roller pulley, then release the tensioner.
- 4). Pull the belt out of each accessory pulley and out of the engine bay. Match the old belt to the new belt to make sure that the new belt is the correct width and length. Route the new belt around each accessory pulley by referring to the routing diagram for the routing instructions. Make sure that the belt has been completely routed around all of the pulleys correctly.
- 5). Turn the tensioner device counterclockwise with the breaker bar, then slide the new belt under the roller pulley. Release the breaker bar and remove it from the tensioner arm. Inspect the belt; make sure that it is centered underneath the roller pulley and that it is seated inside of each pulley.
- 6). Crank the engine and let it run for about 10 seconds to completely seat the new belt inside the accessory pulleys. Turn the engine off and shut the hood.
