How to Replace the Fuel Lines on a String Trimmer
- 1). Drain the gas tank of all its fuel into the proper container. Start the engine (if you can) and run it until it shuts off.
- 2). Locate the spot where the fuel line attaches to the carburetor. On most trimmers, the carburetor will be in the rear of the engine, usually near the air filter. You may have to remove the air filter cover, starter cover or both to access the carburetor.
- 3). Pinch the end of the fuel line with the needle-nose pliers and disconnect it from the metal nozzle on the carburetor.
- 4). Open the gas tank, reach inside and pull out the fuel filter and fuel line with the needle-nose pliers. Throw the old filter and line away.
- 5). Cut off about one to two inches more fuel line than the one you just threw away. Insert the metal wire (coat hanger or baling wire) into the fuel line. Cut the other end of the line at a 45-degree angle.
- 6). Push the line and wire into the opening at the bottom of the gas tank. Keep pushing and wiggling the line through, until you see it pop out near the carburetor.
- 7). Pull out the metal wire. Cut off any excess line in the tank. There should be about two inches left in the tank. Insert the new fuel filter's nozzle into the fuel line.
- 8). Hook the rear end up to the metal nozzle on the carburetor. Fill the tank with fresh, properly-mixed fuel.
