Chances are you don't like the idea of being scared.
It brings the hairs on the back of our necks, it gives us a really uncomfortable feeling in our bellies and in those rare cases causes us to really soil our pants.
But if fear brings out the worst in us, what accounts for this fascination that we have for horror? Every month dozens of horror movies are released all around the world.
Horror even has its own holiday in the ever venerable Halloween.
Some of the greatest works of art and literature were true tales of horror.
If fear is such a bad thing to feel, then what accounts for this fascination? And there are just some places that strike us with mortal fear more than others.
These are the scariest places on Earth and as far as their history and their hauntings are concerned, they have earned their creepy reputations.
Here is a short list of these freaky places: lTransylvania: Is there anything more frightening than the land of the most infamous vampire in literary and movie history? Although Dracula wasn't a real person, he was based on Vlad Tepes of Wallachia, a bloodthirsty ruler who was famous for impaling his enemies on giant stakes.
Definitely creepy! lGlamis Castle: If you are into the story of Macbeth as immortalized by William Shakespeare's play then you'll know that Glamis Castle in Scotland is the place to be when you want hauntings, weird apparitions and other supernatural occurrences.
Many like the tongueless woman, the Grey Lady, and the Monster of Glamis, which looks like a deformed child.
lThe Catacombs of Paris: One of the scariest and most intimidating places in the world is uncharacteristically found in Paris-the city of love and romance.
More specifically it's located underneath it.
This was a result of Paris officials moving millions of bodies from outlying cemeteries to make way for the city's expansion in the 18th century.
This resulted in a true empire of the dead, where hauntings are all too frequent.
