    Animal Mascots

    • Animals are by far the most popular type of mascot used, particularly for sports teams. You can select a mascot that represents some of the characteristics of your company, brand or team. For example, the Los Angeles Kings have a lion mascot, the Houston Rockets have a bear mascot and the Phoenix Suns have a gorilla mascot. Apart from land animals, mascots can also be sea creatures, such as sharks, whales and dolphins, or even types of birds, such as eagles, ostriches and parrots.

    People Mascots

    • A mascot does not have to be an animal-shaped costume; in fact, it can be based on a specific person or a certain race of people. Take Florida State University, who use Chief Osceola, who is a man dressed in a traditional native Indian costume, and a horse called Renegade as their mascots. Another idea is a masked costume that resembles a celebrity or an influential person. When choosing your mascot, ensure it is appropriate for your brand or team and it will not offend any individuals or cultures.

    Food Mascots

    • Add a little humor and originality to your mascot with a wacky food-themed mascot costume. There is a variety of fancy dress food outfits available from online retailers or costume stores. How about a hot-dog costume, a ketchup bottle or even a human-sized bottle of beer for something different?

    Illusion Costumes

    • Illusion costumes will certainly grab the attention of your customers or fans. They are designed to created a mind-boggling and often comical illusion, such as a clown that can constantly walk on his hands, a rabbit carrying a human or a gorilla giving a man a piggy-back ride. Illusion costumes only require one person to act as the mascot, but they are often more expensive than traditional animal mascot costumes.

    Abstract Costumes

    • If animals, birds, fish or food items are just too plain for your mascot, how about something a little more unique? Some fancy dress stores and mascot suppliers can create your very own mascot from a personal drawing or idea. Scary aliens, six-armed monsters and strange four-eyed creatures are all possible future mascot costumes.
