How to Replace Electric Dryer Belt on a Fridgidair Dryer
- 1). Disconnect your dryer from the electrical outlet and slide it out away from the wall. Reach behind the dryer and disconnect the dryer vent, located near the bottom of the dryer's rear panel. Slide the dryer out far enough that you have plenty of space on all sides of the dryer.
- 2). Slide a putty knife between the top and and front panel, on the left side of the dryer. Slide the knife toward the center of the dryer to disengage the left clip holding the top panel in place. Repeat the process on the right side. Lift the top panel up and lean it against the dryer's control panel.
- 3). Remove the screws along the inside of the front panel. Pull the top of the front panel toward you and lift it up to release the bottom clips holding it in place. Disconnect the door switch wires and slide the front panel to the side of the dryer, revealing the drum.
- 4). Move around to the back of the dryer and remove the two screws holding the rear access panel, located on the left side of the dryer's back panel, in place. Remove the panel to reveal the belt, motor pulley and idler pulley. If the belt is already broken, pull it out of the dryer. If you are replacing a worn belt, unhook the belt from the motor pulley and idler pulley. Return to the front of the dryer and slide it off of the drum.
- 5). Slide your new belt over the drum. There is a groove on the drum, near the back, for the belt to rest. Move around to the back of the dryer and loop the belt through the motor pulley and idler pulley. The belt should run from the drum, loop around the motor pulley, cross over the top of the idler pulley and run back to the drum. The Resource link below the article shows an image of how the belt should be looped. Spin the drum a couple of times to center the belt and replace the rear access panel
- 6). Replace the front panel and top panel. Reconnect the dryer vent and plug your dryer into the outlet.
