How to Wind Guitar Strings on Tuners

    • 1). Attach the new guitar strings to the bridge. Depending on the style of bridge your guitar has, this is accomplished in different ways. Two of the most common are feeding the strings through the back of the guitar (electric guitars with floating bridges) and inserting the end of the strings into the bridge and holding them in place with plastic pins (steel-string acoustic guitars).

    • 2). Pull the string through the hole in the tuning pin. Pull it all the way through, but do not pull it too tight. It is better to leave a little slack than to pull the string through too tightly.

    • 3). Wrap the excess string around the tuner once or twice and then bend what is left of the string parallel to the tuning peg. Make sure to wrap the string tightly around the peg.

    • 4). Tune your guitar strings. It may take a few tries to get the strings in tune at first. New strings need to be broken in before they stay in tune well.

    • 5). Cut off the extra string sticking out of the tuner with wire clippers. Be careful when throwing these away, as their ends are very sharp.
