- 1). Connect a microphone to your computer if one is not already included. If you don't have a built-in microphone, you can purchase a microphone from your local computer electronics retailer.
- 2). Visit a website that allows you to make calls from your computer to landline phones. A few of these online service providers are linked in the Resources section. Compare providers to determine which one is right for you. For example, you can check the rates per minute, whether purchased minutes expire if they are unused for a certain period of time and whether you are assigned your own telephone number.
- 3). Sign up for a user account with the online service provider you have chosen. In most cases, this process only requires that you enter basic information, such as your name, username, password and contact information.
- 4). Download and install any "Telephony" software that may be necessary for you to make the telephone calls. However, not all providers require a software download. If no download is required from your chosen provider, simply log in to the website interface to access the online telephony software.
- 5). Type the landline telephone number into the telephony keypad, and press the appropriate button to send the telephone call through. Typically, this button will be labeled, although the exact location of the button and the wording for the label will vary by provider. For example, the button may say, "Dial," "Send," "Connect" or "Talk."
- 6). Begin talking into the computer microphone when the individual answers the landline telephone. It is recommended that you also plug a headset into the headphones jack on your computer to allow you to hear the person speaking without getting a lot of reverb or distortion.
