Though women’s socio-economic status is steadily improving, there is still ground to be covered. Women’s median weekly earnings are just 80 percent of men’s, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Several nonprofit grant programs work to improve the status of women and move toward full equity. Grants vary in amount, requirements and deadlines, so be sure to read all of the fine print before applying. - The Arizona Foundation for Women, a non profit organization, offers two grant programs that benefit women. The Deborah G. Carstens Fund awards grants to nonprofits that “motivate and empower girls and women to take responsibility for their economic lives by developing skills, building self-esteem and identifying challenges that impede their success,” according to the grant website. The Arizona Foundation for Women’s Social Change Grant funds programs that promote social equity and work to prevent violence against women. Grantees must provide services that help to fulfill the unmet needs of Arizona women.
