    • 1). Cut roses in the early morning before the late morning sun causes the flowers to open too much. Select roses that are not fully mature or opened, using some rose buds, too.

    • 2). Clip off all leaves from the stems and discard them. Remove any large thorns that might poke through floral tape and ribbon.

    • 3). Cut the stems to a length of 8 inches and make the cuts at 45-degree angles. Store the cut flowers in a vase of water until you are ready to make the bouquet. Keep the flowers in a cool room so they do not open too much before you make the bouquet.

    • 4). Arrange the flowers in your hand until you like the look. Use any number of roses, depending on how large or small you want the bouquet.

    • 5). Secure the roses together by wrapping floral tape around the top half of the stems. Start the tape directly underneath the flowers and wrap about 4 inches down the stems.

    • 6). Cut the 2-inch wide ribbon into a 24-inch long piece. Leave an 8-inch long tail free, then begin wrapping the ribbon down the stems to cover the tape. After wrapping 4 inches down the stems, wrap back up to the top, and you will have another 8-inch tail on the other side underneath the roses.

    • 7). Tie the two loose tails of the ribbon into a bow directly underneath the flowers to finish the bouquet. If needed, store the bouquet in a vase of water to keep it fresh, making sure not to get the ribbon wet. Dry off the ends of the stems before carrying the bouquet.
