How to Convert PAL DVDs to NTSC Format
- 1). Convert PAL DVDs to NTSC using the free D2MP application (see Resources). D2MP offers a clean, simple interface in a basic package. You can rip the video off your PAL DVD if necessary and convert it to NTSC. During installation, several windows will pop up asking you to install additional programs. These are not spyware, but rather partner applications that give D2MP full functionality.
- 2). Convert PAL DVDs to NTSC using Nero Recode (see Resources). While this program is not free, it comes bundled with the Nero burning suite that some PC manufacturers include with purchase. It offers significantly more options and support than D2MP. With Recode, you can customize things like framerate (speed) and image quality.
- 3). Convert PAL DVDs to NTSC using TMPGEnc Xpress (see Resources). This program offers the highest quality control of the three, but at $99.95, as of July 2010, it is also the most expensive. It presents a simple interface that guides novice users through the process. For more advanced users, it features filters to edit your video, doing such things as reducing the noise, changing the color and editing the audio.
