Classes Required for Massage Therapy
- Ethics are rules or principles related to the performance of massage. Students become fully versed in ethical behavior and the difference between appropriate and inappropriate behavior.
- The number of hours required to qualify for credentialing in massage therapy varies from state to state, but is typically 500 hours distributed among anatomy, physiology, ethics and pathology classes (see Resources).
- Anatomy is the study of the structure of the human body. Specifically, the student can expect to memorize the name and location of every bone and most of the muscles of the human body.
- Physiology is the study of the functions of the human body. In this course, students will learn the actions of the skeletal and muscular systems, and how the two systems interact.
- Pathology is the study of disease. Students will learn how to recognize diseases and illness, and whether massage should or should not be performed on a client with a specific condition.
