    • 1). Select a sport on which to focus. While you can include accents that relate to more than one sport, you will be able to create a more cohesive room if you select a single sport. For example, if you select football, you can paint white uprights on a wall, hang football-related pictures and deck out the space with football helmet accents. Similarly, if your daughter is a diehard softball fan, using softball accents and wooden bats as decorations will likely suit her fancy.

    • 2). Use team colors. By using team hues instead of selecting bold colors at random, you can make your color selection more meaningful and directly reflective of your child’s preferences.

    • 3). Create an accent wall in a bright color. Use the boldest team color as the accent wall, and the other color for the rest of the walls. For example, if you're using scarlet and gray to represent the Ohio State Buckeyes, paint one large wall a bold red and the rest of the walls gray. Likewise, if your child is a Pittsburgh Steelers fanatic, paint one wall black and the others gold.

    • 4). Add sports accents to the wall with stencils or wallpaper. Purchase a pre-made border featuring the items representative of the sport you selected, or use stencils to accomplish this customization.

    • 5). Pepper in playful accents. Gather accent pieces that reflect the sport you selected, and place them around the room to add decorative appeal. Look specifically for accents that are also functional, such as a lamp that features a baseball mit or a change jar shaped like a baseball, to allow these decorations to serve dual duty. Or select an oversized soccer ball bean bag chair and soccer goal netting to dress up you soccor-themed space effectively.
