Can Cheap Laminated Furniture Be Painted?
- Large laminated furniture can be taken apart to make the painting process easier. Doors can be removed along with hinges and knobs. Smaller pieces may not require this step.
- Laminated furniture needs to be sanded with a fine grain sandpaper prior to any painting. This may be done by hand or a palm sander. Sanding is required to help the paint adhere to the surface.
- Following the sanding it is important to clean the surface. You can use a tack cloth to remove any dust or marks that will affect the painted look and the smoothness of the surface.
- After cleaning the surface, an oil-based primer coat should be applied to the surface. Oil-based primer adheres tighter to the surface.
- Oil-based paint is recommended for the final coat as well. It is also suggested to paint a third coat to refrain from furniture chipping or scratching.
