    DSP Effects

    • Digital signal processors (DSP) digitally emulate traditional analog effects. Crate's DSP unit features 16 DSP effects.

    Effect Types

    • Effects include the most popular guitar sounds, including variations of chorus, reverb, delay and rotary speaker. Effects are chosen by preset knob, and a level control handles the intensity.

    Effects Loop

    • An effects loop allows the addition of external effects, wired around the preamp circuit to reduce noise. Since many players enjoy using external effects in tandem with built-in circuits, effects loops are a welcome addition.

    Advantages

    • Built-in effects eliminate the need for external effects and wiring. The effects circuit shares the power source with the amp, reducing noise, and the effects themselves are frequency optimized to enhance sound.

    Disadvantages

    • Since most DSP effect units do not offer comprehensive parameter control, the user must rely on presets. Many players are able to overlook this deficiency for the convenience of having effects built-in.

    Fun Fact

    • Original Crate amplifiers were housed in a rough-hewn wood crate. Because the amplifiers were compact, Crate sold auxiliary power amps with the same housing, allowing players to use a "stack of Crates."
