How Achievements Work

• Achievements let new users know when they accomplished something. However, the more you play on the site, the fewer Achievements you get. The Achievements are tasks that start out very easy, and they are awarded for almost everything a new user does on the site. Eventually you stop getting Achievements at all unless you deliberately try to get them, and many are quite difficult to reach. Some Gaia players may spend days, weeks or even months on a quest to get a specific Achievement.
  
  

Types of Achievements

• Many of Gaia's Achievements are humorous. For instance, the Hygienic Achievement badge (200 points) looks like a person in a shower cap using a sudsy bar of soap, and it is awarded for changing your avatar's virtual clothing two days in a row. Some Achievements require a lot of work. The Tycoon Achievement (200 points) may take months because it is only award to Gaians whose Marketplace sales exceed 1,000,000 gold. Achievements like Noob Wrangler, awarded for quoting ten new Gaians, are similar to scavenger hunts. Other Achievements are more esoteric, like the the Tooth Fairy Achievement (100 points), awarded for giving the Buck Teeth item as a gift to another Gaian who is wearing wings.
  
  

Special Event Achievements

• Special Event Achievements are given out for holiday events or other events outside of Gaia in addition to the usual special event items. For Easter 2011, Gaians received the Bunny Spotter, Bunny Hunter and Bunny Hoarder Achievements at different points in the Easter quest to collect bunnies by commenting in the Easter forums. There are even Achievements related to Stephanie Meyer's Twilight Saga. The Team Jacob Achievement requires Gaians to equip a werewolf item, and the Team Edward Achievement requires a vampire item. Unlike other special events, Team Jacob and Team Edward are always available.
  
  

Using Achievements

• Achievements points can't buy anything on Gaia, but many Gaians enjoy displaying funny or hard-to-earn Achievements. Three Achievement badges can be displayed at a time under your avatar. They will show up on your profile and when you comment in the forums. Also, focusing on earning certain Achievements can help you make a lot of gold without you realizing it, especially the Forum-related Achievements such as Mega Thread, Conversationalist, and Mark Twain. Gaia has an entire forum set aside just for earning those kinds of Achievements.
