Starting A Virtual Assistant Business When You"re Over A Certain Age
It's not like the corporate world where you're judged by your age.
Just think, how many times have you heard about people not being able to find work because they're over a certain age? This isn't a factor when you're a Virtual Assistant.
In fact, being older can actually be an advantage in that you'll have MORE experience, which will benefit clients.
Ultimately, clients don't care about your age.
All they want to know is that you can do the work and you're reliable.
I receive emails all the time from people who are having problems finding another job because of their age.
Becoming a Virtual Assistant is the perfect solution to that because there is no discrimination in this field.
This also means that you don't get discriminated against because of what you look like, the clothes you wear, what religion you are, how pregnant you are or the colour of your skin.
I read about an African-American woman who was discriminated against in the corporate world because she was over 50 and because she was African-American.
This was in spite of the fact that she had a degree and years of experience.
How unfair is that? Since she's become a Virtual Assistant, she's taken back control over her life and her self esteem.
No longer does she have to face discrimination.
Have you ever been discriminated against because you 'don't dress right' or 'corporate' enough? As a Virtual Assistant you can wear pajamas and still be successful! Although I wouldn't recommend sitting at home in your pajamas all day, it certainly is an option! The beauty of starting a Virtual Assistant business is that it can be 100% virtual, so your clients don't even need to know what you look like.
How about pregnancy? We've all heard about women facing discrimination in the workforce when they become pregnant or after having children.
When you work for yourself, this is no longer an issue.
It's on a 'need-to-know' basis - just as long as you or your team can get the work done, clients can stay blissfully unaware of your impending arrival.
Gender also has no impact on becoming a Virtual Assistant.
Although the majority of Virtual Assistants are women, there are increasing numbers of men who are enjoying the flexibility of this profession too.
Whatever prejudices you might be subjected to, in a virtual world you are simply a resource rather than a someone who may be judged for the wrong reasons.
It's a great leveller.
Make the best of it!
