Job Corps Instructor Certification

For example, if applying to teach building or trades, a degree in engineering or project management would be required, or a degree in education coupled with experience in the building field could be accepted.

To receive a teacher's license, candidates must either hold a bachelor's degree in education or have enough relevant experience to sit for the licensing exam. The requirements to take the exam vary from state to state. In some states, a master's degree in the area of interest can be substituted for the teaching license.
- Two years or more of experience in the area of interest is required. For example, if the desired area of instruction is culinary arts, experience working in restaurants as a cook or chef is required. Experience with dealing with troubled youth or teens is preferred.
- To become a Job Corps instructor, the skills needed include excellent communication skills, the ability to convey both simple and complex concepts in an effective manner, computer literacy and organizational skills.
- A valid driver's license is required to be a Job Corps instructor. Also, instructor candidates who have taken the civil service test for their respective fields are highly desirable.
