How to Remove Breakers From a GTE Sylvania Breaker Box
- 1). Turn off the main breaker. Hold one hand against the panel cover and remove screws.
- 2). Put one hand on each side of the cover and pull the cover straight off.
- 3). Locate the breaker you want to remove. Use the voltmeter to ensure that there is no power at the breaker. Set the voltmeter for a voltage of 250 volts or higher. Put one lead on the wire connected to the breaker and the other lead to the ground or neutral strap in the panel. There should be no indication of voltage on the meter.
- 4). Remove the wire or wires connected to the breaker and screw a wire nut onto the bare end of the wire. Wrap the end of the wire nut with electrical tape so the wire nut cannot fall off.
- 5). Hold the breaker on the end where the wire was connected; swing the breaker up to a forty-five degree angle. Pull the breaker straight out of the panel. Install a metal blank on the panel cover where the breaker was removed.
- 6). Replace the cover on the panel and hold it in place with one hand while replacing the screws with the other hand. Turn on the main breaker.
