How to Build a Music Keyboard Enclosure
- 1). Cut one sheet of plywood in half to make two 4-foot squares. The cleaner of the two is for the back of the enclosure. Cut the other piece in half. Cut the second sheet of plywood into four 2-by-4 lengths.
- 2). Attach two L brackets to five of the six 2-by-4 pieces, 6 inches from the sides, both flush against the same 4-foot edge. Use the smaller 3/8-inch wood screws. Each piece of wood should look like a shelf to be mounted to the wall, with two L brackets hanging down in the same direction.
- 3). Stand the 4-foot square up and attach two 2-by-4 pieces as the sides using 3/8-inch wood screws to secure the L brackets. Attach a 2-by-4 piece to be the bottom of the structure in the same way. Add an extra L bracket to each side. Secure the bottom on all sides of the structure.
- 4). Mark the back wall, on the inside, just above where the knees of the keyboard player will rest when sitting. Attach the large L shelf bracket 2 inches above to allow for clearance. Rest a 2-by-4 piece on the shelf bracket and secure it with 3/8-inch wood screws on all sides. Add an additional L bracket to both sides.
- 5). Place the final piece of wood (one will be extra) on top of the enclosure and secure it from underneath. Add two additional L brackets to the sides in the same way. Secure the wood seams with one 3/8-inch screw for every foot. This will add strength and support. Decorate, paint or finish it according to taste.
