Using Your Mind For Weight Loss Success
really to make any positive changes in your life...
is to program you mind to think in new ways.
Daily affirmations are a great tool.
An affirmation is a positive statement written in the present tense, first person.
I find short statements to be best: they are easier to remember! Any thought can be an affirmation.
We make thoughts firm by repeating them over and over.
Affirmations can be said in the morning as you are waking up and at night before you fall asleep.
This helps them sink into your subconscious because you are closer to that state at these times.
You can also say your affirmations through-out the day.
Negative thoughts are a kind of affirmation, too.
How many different negative thoughts do you have about yourself in a day? How often do you catch yourself repeating the same negative thought? We all have negative thoughts and self-doubts from time to time.
What is important is for us to move away from the negative and move toward the positive.
We have ample opportunity for negative thoughts to dominate our minds if we allow them too...
because we hear or read about standards for beauty and health...
because we compare ourselves to others...
or we relive moments from our past.
Whether your negative thoughts are about not being able to stick to your healthy eating goals, or how big your hips are, or thin your lips are, or that you are lazy...
or unlovable...
unworthy...
ugly...
these thoughts do not serve you.
The good news is that you can change your thinking! Any time you find that you are saying something negative about yourself-your body, what you just ate, what you did or did not do for exercise-counteract that with your affirmations.
You can use a negative association to help break your negative affirmation habit...
put a rubber band around the wrist and snap it whenever you notice a negative thought.
This gives a small uncomfortable sensation.
Or you can simply say "cancel that thought" or "that thought no longer serves me".
Immediately follow that up with a gentle loving sensation ("positive reinforcement") which could be as simple as rubbing the wrist gently or lightly tapping your chest while you say a positive affirmation.
Here are some examples of positive affirmations relating to health and eating.
