Method for Water Sampling From a Lake
- 1). Go to the middle of the lake and fill a bottle with surface level water. Cork the bottle and label it as such. Repeat at least once for consistency.
- 2). Tie a bottle to the six-foot-long pole and attach the cork to a string. Stick the pole into the water and pull the string so that the cork loosens and the bottle fills with a sample collected from that depth. Cork the bottle and label it. Repeat at least once.
- 3). Determine the depth of the lake. Find a spot of roughly average depth if there are no significantly different depths. Tie a bottle to a rope and tie the cork to a string. Let the bottle sink to the bottom of the lake and wait a few minutes for any stirred up dust and debris to settle. Pull the cork with the string and then retrieve the bottle, now holding water collected from the bottom. Repeat at least once.
