- 1). Remove the cover to the fan in order to access the switch. Hold the cover with one hand and loosen the screws that hold it in place with the other.
- 2). Disconnect the wiring for the lights. If there's a plastic harness that contains all the wiring, you can pull apart that harness and remove the light kit. If your system uses wire nuts, label which wires connect so you'll know how to reconnect them, and unscrew the wire nuts.
- 3). Unscrew the decorative nut that holds the switch in place. Pull out the switch, leaving the wires intact for the moment.
- 4). Detach the wires either by cutting them or unscrewing the wire nuts.
