Why Didn" t We Bomb Iran

This is a perplexing question in lieu of the reason why it is being asked. The strike which I refer to is the air strike that the entire world including the Iranians felt was coming to take out their nuclear plants before they could get them up and running. You may ask, why in the world would we want to strike their nuclear facilities? The answer to that is because there is no doubt in the mind of the world community that the Iranians want to be able to enrich uranium to the point where they will be able to produce weapons grade plutonium and subsequently nuclear weapons.

If the Iranians acquire nuclear weapons there is no doubt in the mind of the international community that they will use them against nations which they consider to be criminal according to their religious standards. The entire world has known for quite a while that the Iranians were seeking to acquire nuclear weapons and that they would not hesitate to use them against the US and Israel. The US exhausted every possible diplomatic move to stop the process but failed to do so. An air strike was always an option but was the last option. The entire world waited with baited breath as the scenario played itself out and the stress level went sky high when the Iranians announced the date that they would install the fuel rods in the first reactor. This changed the equation because we know that if we bombed the reactor once the fuel rods were installed the result would be a radioactive cloud which would spread and cause harm to many innocent people.

The world knew that if an air strike were to come it would have to be prior to the installation of the fuel rods. That date came and went without incident so there were many surprised people looking on. As we continue to wonder why the attack didnt come the Iranians continued to conduct business as usual and we assumed that the opportunity to thwart their actions had been lost.

If the US or Israel had conducted an air strike it would have been seen as an unprovoked act of aggression by the rest of the world and there probably would have been many negative consequences. The biggest problem would have been the reaction of the Arab nations. Since the Iranians are considered brothers to them we didnt know how they would react. Even though most of them know that it is not a good thing for Iran to possess nukes they may have reacted negatively towards the US out of peer pressure. If the Arab countries would suspend their oil sales to the US for any significant amount of time the result would be chaos in the US economy. This was probably significant to the decision not to strike Iran.

Another factor which may have influenced the decision not to attack is that maybe there was a better plan. Israel has excellent intelligence assets in Iran as do many of the other Arab nations in the region. In addition to this there is a lot of civil unrest in that country at this time. The solution may have been to use these factors to our advantage and perform a clandestine type of operation. Such an operation would not garner a lot of world attention but accomplish the intended mission at the same time.

We may have taken advantage of the fact that there are so many dissidents in Iran to use them to sabotage the operation of the nuclear facilities. We may have used some of our own spies to do so. This is what may have happened in the recent incident where a cyber attack seems to have been mounted against the reactor. There was a computer worm introduced to the programming of the sites computers which has caused massive problems which havent been resolved to this day. Maybe this is the reason that the US and Israel decided to forgo an overt attack on the facility. Maybe they found another way to skin the proverbial cat. Military Ring Express
