    • 1). Wait to receive your voter registration card in the mail once you register to vote. Typically, this card will come with other information, including the precinct number for your area and the address of the local polling place. Write down this information for future use.

    • 2). Contact the office of the secretary of state for your state if you have lost or never received precinct and polling-place information. In most states, you can call a toll-free number that can be found in the blue pages of your phone book or by doing a simple internet search for "secretary of state" plus your state's name.

    • 3). Use the polling-place finder on the secretary of state's Web site. Most states have a page on their site that will allow you to enter your address and/or zip code to receive detailed information about your polling place and precinct, including an address and detailed map.

    • 4). Contact the local county or municipal elections office if you want to find a polling place for a special or local election, as the precincts and polling places may be different than for a state or national vote. You can contact this office by calling or visiting your county government headquarters, or by conducting an online search for your municipality's Web site.
