How to Replace the Fuel Filter on a 1990 Nissan Maxima

    • 1). Pull the fuel pump fuse out of the fuse relay box on the driver's-side fender well. The lid of the fuse and relay box contains a diagram illustrating the position of all fuses and relays. Start the car and let it run until it runs out of fuel (because the fuel pump fuse was pulled). Turn off the key and replace the fuse.

    • 2). Loosen the upper and lower clamps on the fuel pump. Remove the bolt in the filter-mounting bracket using a socket. Pull the filter out of the bracket and pull both hoses off the filter.

    • 3). Install the new filter, making sure that the arrow is facing the throttle body. Tighten the mounting bracket clamp using a socket. Install both hoses and tighten the clamps using the screwdriver.
