- Bernstein test preparation is administered by the company Bernstein & Associates, which provides a range of consulting services to law enforcement professionals. The company was founded in 1985 by Dr. Jeff Bernstein, a psychologist and retired police sergeant. Bernstein, who also holds a master's degree in Human Resource Management, helped the New Jersey Department of Police to develop the first promotional assessment test. The company has a main office in New Jersey and branches in the states along the Atlantic coast from New Jersey to Florida.
- Bernstein test preparation course instructors have a wide array of qualifications. Some are doctorate degree holders in fields such as clinical psychology and education. Others are attorneys that have written the legal training manuals used by police forces. Many are current or retired police and fire managers. The faculty are all knowledgeable in the field of law enforcement and educational training.
- Bernstein test preparation is comprehensive, including training in the different types of police exams that individuals are required to take. Specifically, the training covers written tests, video tests and oral interviews. Programs are tailored in each state to prepare students for the specific components they will see on the exam administered in their state.
- Bernstein & Associates offers two test preparations programs. The first is a two-hour free presentation that introduces test takers to the test. During this presentation, test takers will be given sample questions and shown strategies for answering. The other program offered is a paid seminar. The seminar lasts two days and more fully explains the sections of the test. Test takers are given a book with a full-length practice test. They also receive more in-depth instruction than what is provided at the free presentation.
