Holiday Decorating: How to Make Decorative Candles and Light Up With Battery Candles
Tissue Mosaic Jar Candle
Select used glass jars for these candles and clean them thoroughly. After the jars are dry, start assembling your materials by adding three tablespoons of white glue to one tablespoon of water into a cup. Cut out some tissue paper in holiday colors or with Halloween patterns into small squares. If you'd like a decorative pattern, use a paper punch and punch out the shapes by folding the tissue paper several times over, making it sturdy enough to hold up to the punch.
Brush some diluted glue on the glass jars in small sections and paste the tissue paper pieces. Smoothen out the pieces using the other end of your brush. If you have different colors, layer them on top of each other to create different effects when the light shines through. After the jars have been completely covered, lightly brush another layer of the diluted glue over them and sprinkle glitter over the jars.
Create these decorative candles in different colors or put together a cluster of orange jar candles and use decoupage medium to decorate them with different face cutouts to resemble jack-o'-lanterns. Place battery candles inside these jars to use them as candles or place a bunch of tissue paper flowers in them to create colorful vases.
Aromatic Mummy Candles
This idea calls for used glass jars, cheesecloth, glow-in-the-dark glue, cinnamon powder and a brush. Clean and dry the glass jars well. Cut the cheesecloth into long strips and use a bead of glow-in-the-dark glue to attach one end of a cheesecloth strip to a jar. When the cheesecloth is firmly secured to the jar, brush the back of the strip with glue and start to wrap the strip around the jar. Repeat with several strips to cover the jar completely.
After the glue is dry, rub the cheesecloth with the cinnamon powder for a wonderful aroma and an attractive aged finish. Make several jars to spruce up your mantelpiece or dining table. Use battery candles with these holiday lighting options to enjoy a safe and child-friendly holiday. Battery candles that have a flickering effect add spooky style.
Adapt these simple ideas for any holiday and add a festive glow to your home.
