How to Hook Up a Clothes Washer
- 1). Position the washing machine in the desired location. Attach the drain hose to the drain fitting on the back of the washing machine and secure it with a hose clamp. Use either a screwdriver or pliers to tighten the clamp, depending on the style. Insert the other end of the drain hose into the drain pipe on the wall. The hose should just sit inside the pipe.
- 2). Connect the hot and cold water lines to the fittings on the washing machine. Check to be sure that the rubber gasket is in place on each fitting before you connect them to the washer to prevent leaks. Check below each fitting for the "C" and "H" stamps to identify which one is hot and which one is cold. Connect the opposite end of each line to the corresponding water valves on the wall. The lines will simply screw onto each end by hand.
- 3). Level the washing machine completely before use. Twist the legs under the washing machine to move them up or down as needed until the machine is level. A washing machine that hasn't been leveled will rock and may make a lot of noise when in use.
- 4). Plug the washing machine's power cord into the power outlet. Turn on the water to each of the water lines by turning the valves counter-clockwise. Run the washer through a cycle and check carefully for any leaks.
