    • 1). Look at the person's job or tenancy application. Look for the section in which the person lists cities and counties in which he or she has previously lived. Be sure you ask for this information on the application.

    • 2). Click on the link in the Resources section to search for the clerk of courts website for the first county in which the person currently or previously lived. Find the state in which the person lived, click on the link for the person's county or city clerk of courts office website, and click on the link to search court records. If the city or county does not have a clerk of courts website that allows you to search court records, visit the office of the county or municipal clerk of courts, ask for any felony court records that match the name, birth date and address you have for the person and skip to Step 5.

    • 3). Type in the first and last name of the person. You can also enter information such as the person's middle name or date of birth to narrow the search results. Click Search.

    • 4). Review the list of charges against people who share the applicant's name. Scroll through the results and look for listings that match the date of birth of the person you are searching. These matching listings are civil or criminal court cases in which the individual was involved. Click on the link for the first court case that matches the name and birth date of the individual you are searching. A new window with information about the case appears.

    • 5). Look for information that states whether the case was a civil or criminal matter, whether the person is listed as the defendant and, in the case of criminal matters, whether the charge is a felony. If the case is a criminal matter, the person is listed as a defendant and the case is listed as a felony, look for the section that lists the disposition of the case. If it states that the person was found guilty, that person has a felony. Repeat this step for each charge listed on your search results screen from Step 4.

    • 6). Repeat Steps 2 through 5 for each city and county in which the person lives or lived.
