How to Apply for a Grant in New York
- 1). Logon to the Internet and go to the New York/New Jersey Area Common Application page of the Philanthropy New York website.
- 2). Click on the NY/NJ Area Common Application Form [PDF] link below the "Materials" section on the page. There you will find a cover letter template and instructions on how to construct your common application for a grant in New York.
- 3). Research the foundation for which you are applying for a grant. There is a link in the "Materials" section leading to a list of foundations that accept the NY/NJ-area common application grant. If the organization you are applying for a grant from is not on the list, be sure to call them to see if they accept common grant applications. They may be changing their guidelines to accept the application. Make sure you check their grant guidelines and application requirements before filling out an application.
- 4). Answer all of the questions given on the application form in the order they are listed in. Your grant application should be single spaced. Use the provided headings and submit only one copy. Videotapes are not accepted for common grants.
- 5). Print out and put your application and mail to the organization you are requesting a grant from. It is very possible that the organization will ask for more information or materials before giving you a grant, so be sure you are ready to comply with whatever they ask for.
