Halloween or All Hallows Eve is a wonderful time of merriment and fun. It is celebrated on October 31st every year and is a wonderful time for friends and family to get together. Everyone, young and old can get into the spirit by joining in and letting their hair down.

Halloween is celebrated on the day before the Christian feast day of All Hallows. It is a time of year when people enjoy playing pranks, lighting bonfires and trick or treating too. Children generally go trick or treating after dark on Halloween and go from door to door singing songs and telling jokes in order to be given a treat. Whoever answers the door must beware however as if they don't come up with some goodies, a trick could be played upon them!

One of the most popular and iconic Halloween images has to be the hollowed out pumpkin or Jack o' Lantern. This is lots of fun to create and the face which is carved on the vegetable can be as scary or as silly as you like. Traditionally the purpose of this decoration was to ward off evil spirits which roam the earth particularly on Halloween. However nowadays in these enlightened and modern times, a Jack O' Lantern is simply a bit of fun.

These decorations are particularly popular both in the United Kingdom and in the United States and an added plus is that you can use the flesh of the pumpkin to make a tasty seasonal soup or pumpkin pie!

Another fun Halloween tradition is bobbing for apples. This is where a large basin of water is put out and apples are floated within it. Each participant takes a turn to either catch an apple with their mouth or to drop a fork into the basin and spear an apple.

Perhaps the greatest and most fun aspect of Halloween is dressing up. Many people enjoy dressing up in scary outfits or fun disguises. There are often many parties thrown at this time of year and putting together an outfit for one can provide hours of fun. Often parties have themes such as €ghosts and ghouls' or €doctors and nurses'.

There are so many excellent and atmospheric decorations which can add a certain something to the proceedings. These are readily available in supermarkets, party shops and via the internet. Seasonal garlands are popular as well as fake spider webs and other scary decorations. It is possible to plan a party on a budget but it is always fun if one has the money to splash out on a lavish spread along with decorations and atmospheric music.

Halloween is a time for fun and for laughs. It is a time for spooks and ghosts and for spending with friends and family. It is a time to enjoy having fun and to put day to day worries to one side if only for a day. It's worth going to town with regards to your outfit and your plans for the evening!
