    • 1). Determine the layout of the flexible track lighting. This will help establish how much track you will need. A typically flexible track kit comes with 10 feet of track. Also planning out the lighting will establish if the new track light will use a current junction box, replacing an old light, or whether a new box must be created. Contact a trusted electrician if a new junction box is required.

    • 2). Turn off the circuit to the junction box where the lights are being installed at the breaker box. Check the wires with a volt meter to verify no current is flowing through the wires.

    • 3). Mark with a pencil where the track will be installed. Anchors must be placed at any bends in the track for optimum support.

    • 4). Install the track using a drill and screwdriver to install the brackets and supports. Each manufacturer has a different track setup. Follow the manufacturer's directions to properly install the track. Use wall supports when attaching the lighting to drywall.

    • 5). Place the bulb and sockets, which are the lights, onto the track.

    • 6). Connect the wires from the junction box to the track light system. The white wire from the junction box goes to the white wire in the light. The black wire goes with the black or red wire, depending on the system. Use electrical tape and wire nuts to keep the wires from shorting.

    • 7). Turn the power on and test the lights. The lights can then be moved to reach the desired effect.
