What Are Houskeeping Duties?
- Housekeepers are usually responsible for all areas of cleaning, including washing linens and clothing, dusting, disinfecting, mopping, vacuuming, dishwashing and garbage removal. She may also have general tidying duties, such as making beds and setting the table.
- Food preparation is another common housekeeping duty. Housekeepers may be required to cook one or more healthy meals per day. When her employer entertains, she may have to cater for a large number of people and prepare appetizers, beverages and desserts, as well as dinner.
- Some housekeepers are expected to care for children in addition to other duties. She may be responsible for bathing, feeding, entertaining the children and transporting them to afterschool activities.
- When working for a family or private employer, a housekeeper may have additional duties, such as grocery shopping, receiving guests and phone calls, gardening, or running various errands. It is possible for housekeepers to double as personal assistants when employed by an individual.
- A housekeeper that works in a hotel may have a more specific job description. Perhaps she has a certain number of rooms she is responsible for cleaning each day, or her sole duty may be laundering linens.
Hotels usually employ an executive housekeeper and she is expected to manage housekeepers and the supply of cleaning products and tools.
