Your Competition Really Doesn"t Exist

In your mind you know that the service you offer is unique and you're the best person for the job.
The only problem is there are so many other people offering that same service and your clients don't have to do business with only you.
We could say these other businesses would be considered your competition but that's such a harsh word if you think about it.
My dictionary defines competition as follows: "Competition- rivalry between two or more persons or groups for an object desired in common, usually resulting in a victor and a loser but not necessarily involving the destruction of the latter.
" Sounds a little harsh when you put it that way.
A victor or a LOSER! That means whenever your prospects decide to do business with someone else you're a loser! Never mind the fact that they chose the other business based on price, location, or even because they're related to the owner.
If they didn't choose you, you're a loser.
I think we should change our mindsets on the term competition so it's not so intimidating.
You're in business to offer a particular service and you can't please everybody.
However, you will have your own special group of "followers" and "fans" that love doing business with you and will refer you to others that will do the same.
If you're at a networking function with three other businesses that offer the same service, are you competing with them? Are you watching who they're talking to so you can jump in like a vulture and pull them away while pushing your business card into their pocket? Now that's competitive! And I seriously hope you're not that desperate.
So, we've established that you're not a stalker but you are paying close attention to what the "competition" is doing.
Actually that's a good thing, unless you're losing sleep over it.
Learn as much as you can from businesses in your industry.
As a matter of fact, make it known that you're learning from them.
Attend their seminars, buy their books, subscribe to their newsletter and be one of their biggest fans.
Not because you're stalking them but because the ultimate goal is to provide a service, an excellent service, to a large group of people.
But we can't do it alone.
I'm sure you've heard of "The Science of Getting Rich", written in 1910 by Wallace D.
Wattles.
Wattles states that in order to do things "in a certain way" you must get rid of the thought of competition.
He explains that the way to get what you want is to create it, not to take it away from someone else.
In order to get what you want, you do not have to cheat or take advantage, because you are not competing for a portion of resources and wealth.
Instead, you are creating what you want from the unlimited supply that exists in the invisible formless substance.
He urges the reader to be a creator, not a competitor.
