    Aero Interface

    • The Windows Aero Interface is a new feature as of Windows Vista. The Aero Interface is a set of user interface enhancements designed to make using Windows more intuitive. Most notably, the way you switch between tasks has been changed so you can see the real-time contents of an application window without having to switch to it. All versions except Home Basic come with the Aero Interface.

    Laptop Support

    • Users of every version except Home Basic have access to the same features for supporting common tasks associated with laptops, which include the ability to activate a set of settings optimal for giving presentations, synchronize folders across two PCs, and display what you see on your monitor on a projector on your network.

    File and Volume Encryption

    • BitLocker Drive Encryption uses various hardware and software techniques to let you encrypt entire volumes. Its name is a slight misnomer as it lets you encrypt volumes, not drives. A single volume can span multiple drives, as with RAID systems; a single drive can contain multiple volumes, as when you partition your hard drive. The Encrypting File System allows you to do the same with individual files and folders. These capabilities are only available in "Business," "Ultimate" and "Enterprise" versions.

    Parental Controls

    • In "Home Basic," "Home Premium" and "Ultimate" versions you can set different age-appropriate restrictions for different users. You can restrict access to specific websites and applications (like games) and allot a given user computer use at certain times of the day.

    Networking

    • Only "Business," "Ultimate" and "Enterprise," the high-end versions, have the more advanced networking capabilities, like the ability to set up wireless networks and unrestricted use of videoconferencing software Windows Collaboration

    Languages

    • Only "Ultimate" and "enterprise' versions allow you to install your choice from over 36 languages for the Windows Vista interface, and its supporting applications, to be displayed in.
