How to Become a Federally Licensed Firearms Dealer
- 1). Contact the ATF and ask for Form 7. Form 7 is the federal firearms license application. It is not available on the Internet. You must call the ATF at 301-583-4696 to order a form or visit the ATF website and submit an application over the Internet.
- 2). Take the fingerprint cards contained in the application to your local police department or an agency in your area that conducts fingerprinting. Get fingerprinted.
- 3). Fill in the required information on the application. You need to submit personal information (such as contact information and information about your intent to sell or distribute firearms). You must also select the type of firearm license you want. Type 1 is reserved for people who want to deal or gunsmith; Type 9 is reserved for people who want to sell firearms. For a list of types, see quarterbore.com.
- 4). Send the completed fingerprint cards, the completed application, and a check for the filing fee (which varies depending on the license) to the address contained in the application packet.
