A lot of people are aspiring to become pilots. Whether it is for business, commercial or leisure purposes, it takes more than academic qualifications to be a good pilot. Indeed, pilots are high earners; flying is said to be one of the highest paying careers in the world today. In addition, they get to enjoy a lot of benefits, the most popular one being able to see and travel the world but what are the duties of good a pilot? Aside from the obvious responsibility which is ensuring the safety and efficient operation of the aircraft as well as the safety of the crew and passengers, there are other responsibilities and duties of good a pilot that can be divided into preflight and flight duties.

Preflight duties are very vital before taking the trip as they adequately prepare the plane and the crew for a safe journey ahead. Among the preflight duties of good a pilot are such as; ensuring there is complete and comprehensive information regarding the weather, number of passengers and the aircraft used. With this information, the pilot comes up with an appropriate flight plan that clearly details the amount of fuel needed, what route is to be taken and the altitudes of the flight. In addition to this, the pilot oversees the cargo loading and fuelling of the plane so everything is as planned. Counter checking the systems and briefing the crew before taking flight is also among the duties of good a pilot.

Before taking off, a communication channel is opened between the air plane operators and the air traffic controls. Keeping in touch with the control tower before, during and when landing the plan is one of the major duties of a good pilot when flying. The captain pilot has the overall authority of the flight but is usually supported by the co-pilot. When flying, some of the duties observed include; equipment monitoring, this involves interpretation of the data read from the instruments, maintaining communication with the passengers for example informing them of stormy weather ahead or asking them to buckle up. In addition to the duties of good a pilot is following flight plans, filling paper work, making regular checks on the condition of the aircraft, it's positioning and responding quickly in case of emergencies or weather changes. During long trips, the pilots take shifts such that the co-pilot will fly the plane while the captain attends to other matters. Before landing, the destination towering gives the instructions on landing to the pilot. Any safe trips that experienced no mishaps on the way are as a result of the duties of a good pilot and the responsibilities taken during the trip.

In conclusion, it is very clear that pilots have a lot of responsibilities that need full attention at all times. Perhaps it is for this reason that getting a license for flying commercial airlines is usually very challenging. However, to be the best then you have to learn and practice the duties of good a pilot mentioned above as well as seek academic certification from accredited institutions.
