How to Use Audio to Stimulate the Mind

    • 1). Set up a music player in a desired location. Many of the stimulating effects of audio are meditative in nature, so choose a quiet, comfortable room in your home if you wish to stimulate your mind in a relaxing manner. Additionally, audio can be used to motivate or energize the mind. If it is permitted, set up a music player at your workplace to take advantage of the productive benefits of audio.

    • 2). Choose audio that is right for the occasion. Rather than listening to a randomized playlist, create a playlist of songs or other audio that is appropriate to the type of stimulation you wish to cultivate. For example, to clear your mind for meditative purposes, choose a relaxing audio track such as ocean sound effects or peaceful, ambient music. To help yourself wake up in the morning, choose faster and more uplifting music that makes you feel energized.

    • 3). Refrain from mixing audio recordings with varying emotional effects. When you listen to a randomized playlist or choose songs on a whim, you often end up creating mixed stimulatory messages in your mind. Carefully consider the mindset you wish to cultivate when you choose each song or audio recording.

    • 4). Allow yourself to be absorbed in the audio. Though it can help to simply have stimulatory audio tracks playing in the background of other activities, you must give the audio all of your attention to fully take advantage of the emotional effects. For example, to reach a meditative mental state, play a relaxing song while closing your eyes and concentrating on the music. This will help you develop a mental state that parallels the peaceful mood of the audio.
