How to Become a Correctional Officer in Washington

1). Find and apply for a job opening on the State of Washington Department of Corrections website. Be sure that you are qualified for the job for which you apply.
2). Attend and pass the Washington state Correctional Worker Core Academy. This is a six week academy that will teach you not only how to use physical force to subdue prisoners, but also you will learn how to find problems before they arise and how to aid in the rehabilitation of the prisoners.
3). Apply your skills in the Correctional Officer Achievement Program. The Correctional Officer Achievement Program is a year long, on-the-job training program in which you will receive further training, and be able to apply your skills in a hands on setting.
