How to Write a Resume That Will Get Noticed
- 1). Write your resume header. This should be centered at the top of the page in size 14 Arial or Times New Roman font.
Name
Address
Phone number - 2). Skip a space and add an "Education" or "Qualifications" heading to your resume. Outline your formal education and any certifications you have, keeping it simple and easy to read. If you have a college degree, don't include any high school information. See the picture for a sample. This section, and all of the following sections, should be left aligned and in a size 12 font.
- 3). Skip a line and add a "Skills" heading. Include a bullet list of your skills and abilities. This list should be short and only include the skills that are relevant to the job you are applying to. Go through the job description and pick out which skills they are looking for. Be honest, but use impressive sounding words. A sample of some things you could include are in the picture.
- 4). Skip a line and add an "Experience" heading. Outline your complete employment history, keeping it relevant to the job you're applying to. Be sure to account for all of your time, including periods of unemployment. List your major accomplishments and responsibilities in short, readable segments. Include details whenever possible. Don't just say you saved the company money, write down how much you saved. See the picture for an example.
- 5). If you have awards or other accomplishments to include, add a section at the bottom called "Other", and list the ones that are relevant.
- 6). When you write a resume using this format, your skills will be at the top of the page where they will catch the employer's attention and hopefully prompt them to keep reading.
