Top 10 Billboard Rock Songs - January 14, 2012

106 17
This week on the Billboard Rock Songs chart, the Top 10 contains the same 10 songs as last week -- but not in the same order. That leaves the door open for some surprises, but if you thought anybody was going to come around and dislodge our current champion from the top of the countdown, you are very much mistaken.

10. Young the Giant - "Cough Syrup"

For a second week in a row, Young the Giant hang out at No. 10 with "Cough Syrup," a catchy blast of melodic modern rock about looking for some relief from the pain of daily life. The band will be heading out on a headlining tour that gets going in early February.Buy from Amazon »

9. Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Monarchy of Roses"

"Monarchy of Roses" is the latest single from Red Hot Chili Peppers, and it had been showing some strong legs on our countdown. But despite recording gains in sales and airplay, the I'm With You cut drops a spot to No. 9.Buy from Amazon »

8. Red Hot Chili Peppers - "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie"

With "Monarch of Roses" slipping a bit, it's up to the Chili Peppers' other hit, "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie," to pick up the slack. After weeks of slow decline, the single rises one spot to No. 8.Buy from Amazon »

7. Seether - "Tonight"

For a third week in a row, "Tonight" sits at No. 7. The group will be touring in Australia and New Zealand before teaming with 3 Doors Down for a stint across Europe that runs from February to March.Buy from Amazon »

6. Foo Fighters - "Walk"

"Walk" just isn't ready to leave the Top 10. The Foo Fighters single has been on our countdown for a full six months now, hitting No. 1 for eight weeks, and this week it's at No. 6 for a second consecutive week.Buy from Amazon »

5. Coldplay - "Paradise"

This week's biggest plunge belongs to Coldplay. After sitting at No. 3 -- its peak position -- "Paradise" tumbles two spots to No. 5. But don't shed a tear for the band: Mylo Xyloto is already platinum, and "Paradise" has gone gold.Buy from Amazon »

4. Chevelle - "Face to the Floor"

For a second week in a row, "Face to the Floor" is at No. 4. Chevelle will be heading out on tour in late February to support Hats Off to the Bull, one of 2011's best rock albums.Buy from Amazon »

3. Foo Fighters - "These Days"

The third biggest hit off Wasting Light, "These Days," is our huge climber of the week, vaulting up two spots to No. 3. The album's other two smashes -- "Walk" and "Rope" -- both lodged major time at No. 1. Will "These Days" complete the hat trick? I think it's very possible, although our current No. 1 is showing some real legs.Buy from Amazon »

2. Bush - "The Sound of Winter"

Bush's "The Sound of Winter" had been No. 1 for five weeks. Since then? Oh, it's been sitting at No. 2. For a fourth straight week, the single enjoys life as a runner-up.Buy from Amazon »

1. The Black Keys - "Lonely Boy"

The Black Keys took some shots at Nickelback in a recent interview in Rolling Stone, complaining that the Canadian group are responsible for the sad state of rock music. "Rock & roll is dying because people became OK with Nickelback being the biggest band in the world," drummer Patrick Carney said. Well, if you look at our countdown, the Black Keys are far more popular. For the fourth week in a row, "Lonely Boy" sits atop the Rock Songs chart. That will probably make Carney a lot happier about rock's future.Buy from Amazon »
