How to Disable the Dial-Up Modem on a Laptop
- 1). Click on the "Start" button on the bottom left side of your laptop's screen.
- 2). Choose the "My Network Places" or "Network" option from the Start Menu. This will open a separate window with a list of devices for network and Internet connections.
- 3). Search for "Dial-up Modem" on the list and right-click on it to open a small "Properties" window.
- 4). Select the "Power Management" option in the "Properties" window. Power Management deals with your dial-up modem's power consumption.
- 5). Check the small box next to the option that enables your laptop to turn off the dial-up modem. This will temporarily disable your dial-up modem, until you need it and actively use it. However, if you want to disable the modem permanently, continue with the next step.
- 6). Right-click on "Dial-up Modem" to reopen the small "Properties" window. Select the "Do not use this device" option.
- 7). Check if you have successfully disabled the dial-up modem on your laptop. Restart the computer and open the "Network" window again. Under the icon, it should read "Disabled," indicating that your dial-up is currently not in function.
