Do It Yourself: Edible Fruit Arrangements
- 1). Wash all of the unpeeled fruit to remove pesticides and dirt and let each piece dry on a towel.
- 2). Slice the pineapple in 1/2-inch thick pieces. Lay each slice flat and cut out a daisy shape from the pineapple. Slice a cantaloupe in half and remove the seeds. Use the melon baller to scoop out a ball for each daisy shape you have.
- 3). Stick a skewer through the length of a grape and slide the grape down two inches. Insert the skewer through the center of the pineapple daisy and slide down to the grape. Stick a ball of cantaloupe on the end of the skewer next to the pineapple daisy; do not push the stick all the way through the ball. Set the pineapple and cantaloupe daisies aside.
- 4). Cut the watermelon in half and slice it into 5 1/2-inch slices, each at least the diameter of a star-shaped cookie cutter. Turn each star on its side and insert the pointed end of a wooden skewer through the center of each star; do not push the skewer completely through the watermelon. Set the watermelon stars and the rest of the watermelon aside.
- 5). Slide four to six blueberries on a skewer, but do not force the tip through the final skewered berry. Repeat with four to six skewers and set them aside.
- 6). Cut a honeydew melon in half and remove the seeds. Take one half of the melon, which will resemble a bowl, and make a cut down the center and across the bowl, leaving you with four equal-sized wedges. Take each wedge and start from the point connected to the peel and slice from the point down through the melon to the opposite end, leaving you with eight identical slices of melon. Repeat the process with the other half of the melon so you have a total of 16 melon slices.
- 7). Use a paring knife to remove the skin from the melon slices. Insert a skewer through the flat end and halfway in each melon slice; do not push the end completely through the pointed end of the melon. Set the wedges aside.
- 8). Peel a Granny Smith apple, remove the core and slice it in half. Cut the apple into six 1/2-inch cubes. Use the paring knife to cut an "X" into the pointed end of six strawberries so the berry opens into four pieces; do not cut the "X" all the way through the berry. Insert a skewer through the bottom of each strawberry and stick the cubed apples on the end so the corners fit between the sliced parts of the strawberries.
- 9). Scoop the watermelon out of the remaining half until you have an empty shell. Slice the bottom inch off of the watermelon shell so it sits flat. Slice the top of the lettuce so the leaves spread out. Place the head of lettuce core-side down in the watermelon shell and fill in any gaps with the lettuce leaves you removed from the top.

Stick the skewers with the daisies in the lettuce, evenly spaced across the arrangement. Insert the stars further into the lettuce in between the daisies. Stick the melon slices on skewers in the gaps between the other fruits. Fit the strawberry flowers in the spaces of the arrangement. Stick the skewered blueberries in any remaining spaces.
